The Code for Sustainable Homes is the blueprint for all new homes in the UK, and has been adopted by Communities and Local Government (CLG) as the roadmap towards the zero carbon home.
The Code is measured in levels from 1-6 (6 being 'zero carbon') and is an environmental assessment method for the design and construction of new homes, with a view to encouraging continuous improvement in sustainable home building.
Do I need a CFSH Assessment?
Having a Code rating became mandatory for new developments in England in May 2008. This means you must either provide an assessment, or provide a 'Nil Rated' certificate if you do not wish to have an assessment.
Some bodies now require a minimum Code Level 3 - i.e Registered Social Landlords, Housing Associations, and certain Planning Authorities.
The Code does not apply to Scotland.
From May 1st 2008 a minimum code level 3 is required for all new housing promoted or supported by the Welsh Assembly Government or Assembly Government Sponsored Bodies. From 2nd June 2008 Code level 3 is required for all new self contained social housing in Northern Ireland.
