Update to our May post, now that BRE has released the full timetable.
We wrote back in May that BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit Out Version 7 was on the way, though BRE hadn’t confirmed much beyond “this summer.” That’s changed, and we now know that registration opens on the BREEAM Platform on Thursday 24th September, and – more importantly for anyone with a project in the pipeline, there’s now a hard cut-off for the current scheme.
When V7 Actually Lands
Registration for RFO V7 opens on 24th September. From that point, licensed assessors can start creating assets and registering new assessments under the updated scheme, with BRE providing platform guidance alongside the launch. There’s training running through BRE Academy for assessors getting up to speed on the new methodology, so it’s not just clients who have some catching up to do.
The Deadline That Actually Matters
BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit Out UK 2014 closes to new registrations on 27th January 2027. After that, every new project goes through V7, whether you’re ready for it or not.
We said in May that registering early tends to pay off, and that logic hasn’t changed – if anything, it’s sharper now there’s an actual date attached to it. New BREEAM versions almost always tighten things up rather than loosen them: harder credits, revised benchmarks, requirements that show up late in a project and force a redesign nobody budgeted for. Get your project registered under the current version before January, and you’re assessed against requirements your design team already knows how to hit.
Why Five Months Isn’t as Long as It Sounds
Five months sounds like plenty of time. It isn’t, once you account for registering the site, getting the assessment properly underway, and the fact that most people won’t think about this until year end. If you’ve got a refurbishment or fit-out project anywhere on the horizon, even something still at concept stage, it’s worth a conversation now rather than in December.
