In these times of ever evolving regulation and policy, design and construction professionals are under constant pressure to maintain their learning.
We can provide training sessions to your teams to support your commitment to learning and development. Below are some examples of sessions currently on offer:
The Future Homes Standard: The next Building Regulations in 2025
Duration: 1 hour – including time for questions and discussion.
Location: We are happy to host you remotely over Teams, Zoom, or your platform of choice.
We partnered with the Supply Chain Sustainability School to provide a live webinar of this presentation on August 6th. You can rewatch it here.
What will this session cover?
The Future Homes Standard is likely to be the most dramatic change in the building regulations for sustainable design since their beginning. This session will give you the perfect introduction to what we know so far about the Future Homes Standard. We’ll look at the challenges the country faces as it phases out gas, and why heat pumps and not boilers will be centre stage in the transition away from fossil fuels. We’ll take a look at the regulations we have so far and how they’ve already evolved to promote low energy demand, electrified homes. We’ll explore what we know about the Home Energy Model, the much more detailed new tool for assessing compliance with the building regulations and issuing EPCs. You’ll walk away with everything you need to know to design and build a compliant, future-proof, and net-zero-ready building from 2025.
Learn how we’ll transition away from fossil fuel boilers and importance of heat pumps, energy saving design and local generation. You’ll leave equipped with all you need to know to design and specify a compliant, future proof and net zero ready build.
What will I learn?
This webinar will help you to understand:
- Energy and carbon emissions – the basics.
- How do we get to zero emissions when using our buildings?
- The regulations we have so far.
- The Future Home Standard – how the regulations will change, and when.
- The Home Energy Model – the big changes to how the energy use of our homes will be measured and assessed.
- The interactions with the Building Regulations Part O for overheating
Who should attend?
This webinar is suited to anyone involved in designing, specifying and constructing new homes. It will be of particular interest to architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, contractors, clients and self-builders.
SBEM Made Simple – Process & Compliance

Duration: 1 hour – including time for questions and discussion.
Location: We are happy to host you remotely over Teams, Zoom, or your platform of choice.
Learning objectives: Let us help to take the mystery out of SBEM assessments and the Building Regulations Part L. This session covers the role of SBEM for the developer and the consumer, when and why SBEM is needed, the assessment process, how and when we carry out assessments, the building regulations for new and existing building types, the role of BREEAM and planning conditions.
We’ll also take a look at the latest changes to the building regulations, and new targets for low energy demand.
BE have delivered thousands of SBEM Assessments across the UK and we are experienced in dealing with Part L regulations and the associated planning issues. The session will be of particular value to architects, contractors, developers and consultants.
Introduction to BREEAM
Duration: 1 hour – including time for questions and discussion.
Location: We are happy to host you remotely over Teams, Zoom, or your platform of choice.
What will I lean?
- What is BREEAM?
- The aims of BREEAM and why it is required
- The BREEAM process
- The role of the Assessor and AP
- The time limited credits in RIBA stages 1-2
- Main contractor responsibilities
- What may change in BREEAM V7
- Case studies of BREEAM projects
Designing in London – Rules for Low Carbon & Sustainability

Duration: 1 hour – including time for questions and discussion.
Location: We are happy to host you remotely over Teams, Zoom, or your platform of choice.
Learning objectives: The Greater London Authority has the most ambitious programme for low and zero carbon construction in the UK. ‘Designing in London’ is intended for architects, engineers, contractors and developers who face the challenges of building low carbon, sustainable developments and adhering to the latest London Plan requirements. In particular the Zero Carbon Homes policy requires significant design consideration to be made at RIBA stages 1-3 and a commitment to pay carbon offset fees across many sites. Let us help to shine a light on the process.
This session will help to clarify the rules, provide guidance to design teams and assist clients in delivering successful London applications. We’ll also look at the new requirements for whole life carbon, overheating strategies, new ‘Be Seen’ energy monitoring polices and how these could help to close the performance gap.
