St Paul’s Place is a prestigious mixed-use BREEAM refurbishment scheme in the heart of Sheffield, offering high-quality office space alongside retail and leisure facilities.
As part of a wider strategy to enhance the sustainability and performance of the building, Canada Life Asset Management appointed Wates to undertake a significant refurbishment. The project aimed to modernise the space while improving energy efficiency, occupant well-being, and overall environmental impact.
Build Energy was proud to support Wates throughout this process by providing a range of energy and sustainability services to ensure compliance with BREEAM standards and best practice guidelines. Our expertise played a key role in assessing and optimising the building’s environmental performance, helping the project meet its ambitious sustainability objectives of BREEAM Very Good.
Our involvement included supporting Wates from the design to commissioning stages. This included Energy Modelling & Assessment and early stage BREEAM Consultancy. We also provided Design Development for Acoustic Performance and Reduction of Noise Pollution, as well as Commissioning Stage Services for both categories.
Additionally, we acted as the project’s BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP) under the 2014 Refurbishment and Fit-Out (RFO) criteria, providing expert guidance to maximise sustainability outcomes.
To support overall environmental and occupant comfort goals, we conducted an Environmental Noise Survey, developed an Indoor Air Quality Plan, and carried out Indoor Air Quality Testing. Further assessments included Airtightness Testing alongside a Thermographic Survey to identify potential thermal inefficiencies. We also developed a Building User Guide to assist future occupants in operating the building efficiently.
