BE are excited to share our partnership with Octopus Energy as assessors and consultants for their Zero Bills homes initative.
Zero Bills is a smart tariff helping qualifying customers live in comfort with no energy bills for their new build home, guaranteed for at least 5 or 10 years. It’s made possible through a combination of low carbon devices – solar panels, battery, and heat pump.
We know heat pumps, solar PV, clever tariffs and battery storage are centre stage for net zero and are likely to feature prominately within the Future Home Standard. But here are the benefits for developers and home buyers – desirable, future proof homes with no outlay for energy use. It’s great to see this thinking going mainstream, and we’re looking forward to helping developers and clients who are interested in Zero Bills and who want to go above and beyond what’s expected in the regs.
Octopus have committed to build 100,000 Zero Bills homes by 2030. These will come in many shapes and sizes across private and affordable tenures. A large variety of partner developers have already signed up to the scheme, including the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Bellway Homes, Lloyds Living and many more.
A Zero Bills Home will include the following through Octopus partner suppliers:
- A heat pump – generating energy locally and reducing grid demand.
- A smart metre – to work with the tariff.
- A domestic battery – allowing the home to store excess energy and flatten peak demand on the grid.
- Solar PV – specificied to meet the size requirements set by Octopus and geneating electricity locally.
A fair use allowance is set at roughly double the homes estimated consumption, while EV charging is billed seperately. You can read more about the full details of the Zero Bills homes scheme on the Octopus website here. They are also trailing a similar offer for existing homes.
